Honey Bee

felt tip pen, ink pencil, watercolor on paper

The bee is sucking the nectar of the flower, getting essential nutrients. By doing that, it is helping the flower with an essential step in its reproductive process, spreading its pollen to other flowers. Their symbiotic relationship represents the way every organism is essential to the life of another and our planet’s ecosystem as a whole.
This interconnected co-dependency is also represented by the honeycomb pattern in the background. Each wall of the comb is also the wall of the comb next to it, without which it could not exist. Its fractal structure is repeated throughout the comb and the hive and is reflected in the universe.
According to a study sponsored by the U. N., about 40% of pollinator species (like bees and butterflies) are facing extinction worldwide mainly due to human-caused habitat destruction*.
These pollinators maintain the structure of our ecosystem. Without them, 90% of the world’s wild plants would fail
Just like the honeycomb, we humans cannot exist in a sterile world void of diversity. Let this be a meditation and a vigil.
